Dharmadam Island

This island is spread across an area of around 5 acres and surrounded by rivers on 3 sides and the Arabian Sea on its western side. This uninhabited island is covered with coconut palms and the dense bush is a beautiful sight from the Muzhappilangad beach. So this island is also known as Green Island. Apart from the tall coconut trees, there are also colorful orchids that make this place even more charming. The color palette is complete with the brown rocks surrounding this place.  Many different varieties of plants are found here. They are Aamakazhuthu, Pullanzchi, Cheru Tree, Nanj and Thaani. The most striking feature of this island is well situated on the island western side, which is not salty.

During low tide, the sea recedes and visitors can walk across to the island. It is not advisable to visit this place without proper guidance from the localities as the water will rise very fast at the time of high tide. Alternately, you can take a boat from the south end of Moidu Bridge which is close by on the Kannur-Thalassery highway. As there are no restaurants on this island,  carry your own food before going there. Entry to the island is allowed only with prior permission as it is a private island. In 1998, the Kerala Government took over this land for tourism development. Monsoons are not ideal for a visit to this place.
